Why Your Blog’s Image is Crucial
What do you think of when you hear the word Google or Yahoo? What did you think of when you first met your spouse or significant other? How do you feel about your favorite clothing company or TV show? Everything (meaning every company or entity) has an image. Whether you realize it or not, so does your blog.
Numerous bloggers have already proved that whether or not its good or bad, a strong image is a whirlwind force to have (names such as John Chow, Perez Hilton and ShoeMoney come to mind). You cannot escape the endless image of yourself and the image of how you perceive others. Therefore you need to be wary of what kind of image you are establishing for your website or blog.
How we perceive others as well as ourselves will make the difference between a success and a failure.
You can either make or break your blog image. When people hit that frontpage of your blog that you had poured blood, sweat and tears into, they will instantly ‘cache’ an image of what they think of your website whether it be terrible, OK, good or amazing.
If you can establish your vision for your own website and mold it to your fitting, you will be more successful and get better results. How would we go about doing this?
Sit down and brainstorm, think things through.
People coming to your blog will instantly get an idea of how they feel about it, that idea will be stuck in their heads until you change it. Sit down with a piece of paper and write down some ideas as to what you want people to think when they hit your site. You can use general items to get a feel for what you want to establish and then narrow it down. So it could go something like this:
Professional -> Clean -> Simplistic -> White/Grey
You could use whatever method you feel most comfortable with. I know when I hit go to the Google home page that my brain goes “extremely easy, simple” to use, where-as when I go to Yahoo I think “cluttered and way too colorful”.
Your blog is for the masses, cater to them.
You might think that pink, black and neon green font will look freakin’ cool but I’m sure that 98% of your audience/reader’s won’t appreciate it. Cater to your reader’s, you’re not reading your own material (but I suggest you do once in awhile), you’re readers are sitting there and reading it. Figure out what they want and deliver.

Great little writeup. Even if we don’t believe first impressions, I can’t but know that we do it anyway and should expect that others do the same.

The first page of your website is the most important page. I cant say how many times I went to a website to see a garbage job done on it and moved on. If you can’t put the work into your online image, how great could your company really be?
