How to Conquer & Build a Digg Empire: 6 Tips for More Diggs
The vast un-answered question that hits my inbox every couple of days is “Leon, how do I get to the front page of Digg?” Sadly, there isn’t one solid answer. The Digg algorithm has always been a mystery and will probably always will be.
There are a few methods for breaking into that front-page more effectively. The goal here is to get as many Diggs in the shortest amount of time.
Method #1: Make friends.
One of the most effective ways to increasing Diggs is to befriend alot of other Diggers. When a friend of yours Diggs another story, you see a special symbolic badge alerting you that a friend has Dugg it. Having a lot of friends will alert a lot of people that you just submitted a new story.
Almost all the time friends will Digg each others stories. This is a surefire way to rapidly increase Diggs when your story hits the just submitted page.
Method #2: Be active in the community.
Digg is almost like a fraternity (sorry ladies) where the more you Digg and the more friends you have, the more powerful you become. The longer you are active in the site the better. It all comes down to being involved in the community. Share the Diggs and you shall reap the rewards. The more you Digg and comment the better.
Method #3: Profile image, stand out!
You want to be heard? We all know the mundane gray ‘no-profile’ logo on most users. Spice up your profile and add a personal picture. Red works well to offset all the blue :).
Method #4: Be trendy, stay in tune with what’s hot.
Stale, old, trash is basically anti-Digg. You want to be fresh and up to date. Digg isn’t for Grandma’s (although it could be). Scan the front pages to see what people are talking about and find something that no-one else has!
Method #5: Multimedia is King.
Yup. Most people’s attention spans are about <30 seconds. If you have a great video or picture, it will more likely be picked up by Digg than other more lengthy articles.
Method #6: Post badges, graphics.
Wherever your story is linked to, make there is a convenient Digg icon or badge for easy Digging.

Another trick you can use is to join DiggBarter, where you can earn credits by Digging other people’s articles, and then use those credits to have others Digg your articles!

There are some great tips here. My technique is to try and submit quality stories from a range of blogs which I know will get lots of Diggs. This has earned me some authority which means any posts of mine that I now submit, get quite a few diggs

I joined DiggBarter but haven’t used it as of yet. I plan to use it in the next few days.

CJ, using services like DiggBarter is against Digg’s terms of service agreement. In the past, people that were found using sites like that were banned and became hated by Digg users.

Point number 5 about multimedia mentioned above is a good one. Even if you don’t have a video, an interesting image in the article can even attract some attention. So when you write something to get dugg, one should add an interesting image to make the impact which was needed. The image can also help get links to the article in return.

good post, i use digg to, but on my 2 sites, even if i get traffic, 90% is crap..:(
